Hunger Mountain is a co-creation of the students, faculty, and alumnx of Vermont College of Fine Arts, together with bold writers from around the world.
We resist easy definition—as genre-defying creatives of all kinds—though we can all agree that art is crucial for our human experience. It is art that will act as a balm for our souls. Art will bring our communities together. Art will disrupt the world as we know it. Art will make change.
We, the Editors of Hunger Mountain, searched for work that not only entertains, but makes us feel, surprises us, even breaks rules to create something fresh, and unique. We wanted to taste the ripe fruit from the bodega around the corner, hear the call of a creature from deep beneath the ocean, see the strokes of a paint brush as it sways through the air—and know that our lives are captured in all of these moments.
We hope that you, dear readers, will find solace within these pages and feel inspired. Take care of yourselves, connect with your neighbors, read and create art with us. Welcome to Issue #33.
